Small-town and farm buildings
Sauk Centre sits on Sauk Lake along I-94 in western Stearns County, surrounded by farmland. The town has older homes near downtown and the lake, brick storefronts on Main Street with low-slope roofs behind their parapets, churches and community buildings, and newer homes on the edges of town. Out in the country, farmsteads bring farmhouses together with steel-roofed machine sheds, shops, barns and pole buildings.
Central Minnesota storms
Open farm country lets summer thunderstorms and straight-line winds build, and hail can cross a whole township in one afternoon. When that happens, every building on a farmstead may need a look, and some of them have not had one in years. Winters bring snow load, wind and ice dams on older homes.

Main Street, churches and steep roofs
Older downtown buildings usually have low-slope roofs hidden behind parapet walls, with built-up or modified-bitumen roofing, masonry chimneys and flashings that need regular attention. Church roofs in small towns are often large and steep, with bell towers and complex flashing that call for careful access planning. We document both the same way we document a house: the whole roof, the walls and drainage below it, and the conditions that were there before any storm.
