Front Range hail and high-altitude roofs
The Denver metro area and the Front Range are among the most hail-prone urban areas in the United States. Hail season generally runs from spring through late summer, with the most activity in late spring and early summer, and storms can build quickly off the foothills in the afternoon. Add intense high-altitude sun, strong downslope winds and spring snowstorms, and roofs here age and get damaged in ways that differ from the Midwest.
Roofs and buildings we see
Asphalt shingles are common on homes across the metro, and impact-resistant shingles are a frequent choice because of the hail. Concrete tile, metal and older wood shake show up in some neighborhoods, and commercial buildings lean on low-slope membranes and metal. Hail marks show differently on each of those materials, and soft metals like vents, gutters and window wraps often tell the story of a storm more clearly than the roof covering does.
Choosing materials after a hailstorm
Because hail is so frequent along the Front Range, many owners replace with impact-rated shingles, tested to the UL 2218 Class 4 standard, or with metal. We walk through the trade-offs in cost, appearance, weight and how each material is likely to hold up to hail and sun, and we write the choice into the scope. Whether a particular material affects your insurance premium or coverage is a question for your carrier. We also look closely at ventilation and underlayment, because strong sun and big temperature swings are hard on roofs at altitude.
How we work in Colorado
Same process as at home in Minnesota: walk the whole building, document it with located photos and measurements, and quote from the record. If you choose to file a claim, we work with your adjuster at your request; we do not interpret policies, advise on coverage or negotiate claims, and we never waive deductibles. Permit and licensing requirements vary by city in Colorado, and we follow the requirements of the city where the building sits.
